On November 6th, Electrical Engineer Mr. Konstantinos Dravillas, currently completing his internship with the Tsakos Group, delivered an insightful presentation to the 1st Grade students of our Lyceum. He discussed the intricacies of his profession, detailing working conditions and the daily challenges faced by an electrotechnical officer on board ships.

Mr Dravillas also demonstrated an innovative model of an automatic tank-filling system equipped with sensors and alarms, providing a hands-on learning experience for the students. He concluded the session by addressing numerous student questions, emphasizing the critical knowledge and skills required for the role. He highlighted the importance of technological expertise, resilience, and effective problem-solving abilities in navigating the profession’s demands and overcoming challenging situations.

On October 15th, the 1st Grade of our Lyceum engaged in two impactful activities that seamlessly combined education with cultural enrichment. As part of the “KIDS SAVE LIVES” initiative, students participated in an insightful session led by Ms. Evangelia Vataki, an experienced educator in Health and Wellness, focusing on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The session empowered students with vital knowledge and practical skills to recognise and respond effectively to emergency situations, significantly enhancing their health and safety awareness.

Later that day, students attended the 12th Inter-Island Film Festival of the Northern and Southern Aegean, hosted at the “Homerion” Cultural Center. They had the opportunity to view a selection of award-winning short films, expanding their cultural horizons and fostering a deeper appreciation for artistic expression. This enriching experience provided a blend of practical life skills and cultural development, leaving a lasting impression on all participants.

On October 18th, as part of the “CINEMATHEIA” program, first-grade students from the Model Lyceum embarked on an inspiring visit to the Mastic Museum, accompanied by their teacher, Ms. Athina Boula. The visit began with a captivating presentation by filmmaker Ms. Irene Steirou, who introduced the students to the fundamentals of cinema and theater, encouraging them to explore the art of directing. This interactive session provided them with valuable insights into the creative process and ignited their interest in storytelling.

The students were then taken on a guided tour of the museum by Ms. Paidousi, where they delved into the rich history and cultural significance of mastic in the region. Through engaging exhibits and narratives, they learned about the vital role mastic plays in local heritage and its impact on health and the economy of the island.
To culminate their visit, the students collaborated to produce a two-minute narrative video, capturing their experiences and newfound knowledge. This hands-on project seamlessly blended theoretical learning with practical application, fostering creativity, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for both the arts and cultural heritage.

On October 28th, the students of “T.E.E.N.S.” honored the heroes of 1940 with an experiential celebration held in the heart of Chios town and at the island’s port. This unique event, conceptualized by the school’s Principal, Mr. Michalis Xynos, focused on World War II monuments and the pivotal role of shipping during the war.

Through an educational game, the students solved riddles that deepened their understanding of history, engaging with key moments and their significance. Alongside this interactive activity, they participated in the wreath-laying ceremony and proudly represented their school in the parade, showcasing respect and admiration for the sacrifices of those who came before them.

On November 1st, as part of the educational program “The Ship Goes to School,” first-grade students from our Model Lyceum participated in an engaging virtual session with the crew of the Tsakos Group vessel “LISBOA.” This live online interaction offered a unique opportunity for the students to connect directly with the ship’s Captain and Chief Engineer.
The session provided an enriching educational experience, allowing students to ask insightful questions and gain a deeper understanding of the roles of the Captain, Engineer, and Electrician on board. They explored the realities of life at sea, the complexities of navigating maritime ports, and the challenges of managing diverse types of cargo. This interactive initiative fostered a greater appreciation for the maritime industry, inspiring the next generation to recognize the critical role it plays in global trade and transportation.

On November 27th, the first and second-grade students of the Lyceum embarked on a captivating educational journey, visiting the training sailing vessel “Mania” and the Chios Maritime Museum. During their time aboard “Mania,” the students had the unique opportunity to delve into the intricate workings of the ship’s engine room and machinery. This hands-on experience deepened their understanding of nautical systems and the operational practices essential to the maritime industry.

The visit proceeded to the Chios Maritime Museum, where students delved into an impressive array of exhibits that celebrated the island’s storied maritime tradition. Through their exploration, they discovered the profound historical significance of artifacts connected to Chios’s shipping heritage, gaining a deeper appreciation for the island’s pivotal contributions to global maritime history.
The day concluded with a screening of a maritime-themed film at the “Homerion” Cultural Center, which brought to life the traditions, innovations, and technologies shaping the modern shipping industry. This comprehensive experience not only broadened the students’ horizons but also instilled a profound appreciation for the maritime profession and its enduring influence on global trade and culture.

Once again, our students enthusiastically participated in the annual school games, an experience that allowed them to blend enjoyment with meaningful learning while embracing the principles of fair play. This valuable opportunity not only nurtured their team spirit and camaraderie but also reinforced essential values such as collaboration, mutual support, and the importance of dedication to a team vision. Through their involvement, students gained life lessons that extend beyond the playing field, fostering personal growth and respect for others.


In November, students from all grades actively took part in the Panhellenic Bebras Informatics Competition, held in the school’s fully equipped Computer Lab. This active engagement reflects the school’s firm commitment to nurturing informatics skills and promoting technological literacy, equipping students with essential competencies for success in an ever-evolving digital landscape.


On December 19th and 20th, our students hosted a heartwarming Christmas bazaar in Chios Central Square. With creativity and enthusiasm, they crafted handmade gifts, sweets, and festive decorations, embodying the true spirit of the season. The bazaar buzzed with holiday cheer as guests enthusiastically supported the students’ efforts.

On New Year’s Eve, a delegation of students and teachers honored the cherished Chian tradition of “Agiovasiliatika Karavakia,” singing carols to pay tribute to the island’s sailors and maritime heritage.

On December 20th, the school’s Christmas celebration featured a truly special moment – a live connection with the crew of the Group’s newly built vessel “DF CHIOS,” led by Captain Thomas Myofas and Chief Engineer Andrei Slabu. Students delivered heartfelt performances of Chios Christmas carols, creating a festive bridge between land and sea. Adding to the occasion’s significance, the event was honored by the virtual presence of Dr. Nikos Tsakos, whose participation brought an extra layer of warmth to the festivities. The Lyceum buzzed with music, laughter, and the aroma of holiday treats, fostering a heartwarming atmosphere that united parents, teachers, and students in the true spirit of the season.
