A commemorative musical event, organized by our Foundation, was held on January 22nd with great success, at the Homerion Cultural Center of Chios, honoring the 100th anniversary of the birth of the late Mikis Theodorakis.
The event, entitled “The Sacred Music of Mikis Theodorakis” and held on the initiative of the Vice President of the Foundation’s Board, friend, comrade and companion of Mikis Theodorakis, Mr. Georgios Anomeritis, attracted a large audience and many distinguished guests. This special evening highlighted the timeless significance and profound emotional power of the great composer’s work. Special interest was given to Mr. Anomeritis’ lecture, in which he emphasized the importance of Byzantine music and its role within the composer’s broader artistic oeuvre. The “Chios Lyrika” Choir, conducted by Mrs. Angela Tsimpirlou, offered a deeply moving musical experience, much appreciated by the audience, with outstanding performances of selected excerpts from Theodorakis’ compositions.
The impact of the event was further confirmed on the second day, with the participation of the student audience of Chios.
