ENHANCEMENT OF THE EXTROVERSION OF OUR SCHOOL

On January 11th, we welcomed Mrs Lina Petrakakou and Mrs Maria Lachana, from the Legal dept. of the Tsakos Group who visited Chios for the enrollment of the newly built oil tanker “Chios D/F” under the Chios Registry. Our students gained firsthand knowledge of the legal intricacies that underpin the maritime domain.

On the same day, we welcomed esteemed professors from the Department of Engineering Economics and Management of the University of the Aegean, Mr. Vassileios Zeibekis and Mr. Nikos Thomaidis. Their enlightening presentation shed light on the pivotal role of their department, emphasizing the symbiotic relationship between academia and shipping. Engaging in fruitful discussions, our students explored educational matters and exchanged ideas.

January 25th marked an enlightening educational visit for our B’ Class to the Central Port Authority of Chios. The Central Harbor Master, Vice-Captain Mr. P. Vatousis and the executives of the Authority highlighted the danger of marine pollution and contamination, referred to the legislation for the protection of the marine environment and stressed upon behaviors and attitudes that could make a change, as well as, the significant contribution of recycling practices. A visit followed to the bridge and engine areas of two service vessels of the Central Port Authority of the floating port patrol «Π.Λ.Σ. 611» and the lifeboat «Ν/Γ 518».

On February 19th, executives from Britannia P&I, Mrs Elina Souli – Deputy Head of Office & Associate Director, Mr. Konstantinos Samaritis – Head of Piraeus Office & Divisional Director, and Mrs Ioanna Exadactylou – Associate Director, visited our School to meet the Director and educational staff. They proceeded to brief our C’ Class students on the role of P&I Clubs (Protection & Indemnity) and they were given a tour of our laboratories and facilities.

As part of our School Orientation Program, “Compass, A Sea of Horizons”, on February 27th , a delegation from “TEENS” visited the 4th Junior High School of Chios to promote our School and the prospects and opportunities it offers.

Continuing our commitment to holistic education, on February 29th, within the framework of the Health Education, in collaboration with the Greek Institute of Cardiology, Dr. Michail Ampeliotis from the General Hospital of Chios, imparted invaluable knowledge on smoking cessation, healthy diet, obesity prevention, and the importance of exercise, fostering habits for lifelong well-being.

March was a month of impactful engagement and environmental stewardship for our school community.
On March 4th, HELMEPA delegates visited our school as part of the “CCC” – Chios Climate Chance program. They empowered our students as Youth Ambassadors, guiding them in initiatives to combat climate change and promote environmental stewardship, inspiring them to become catalysts for positive change in their communities.

On March 5th, the Directors, educational and administrative staff and all our students converged at the ”Homerion” Cultural Center for the pivotal Conference on Climate Change. The conference provided a platform for insightful discussions and touched upon the aims of the Chios Climate Chance program to be initiated in Chios, which is an educational project co-funded by the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation and the “Ioannis Latsis” Foundation to be implemented by the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (HELMEPA).

The following day , our students witnessed firsthand an underwater cleaning in the surrounding bay of the Central Fish Market of Chios, undertaken by volunteer divers.

On March 15th, students of the Junior High School of Kampos were treated to a tour of our facilities, including the Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation workshops, the Mechanical workshop, the Bridge and Engine room simulators and also the Computer and Science labs. Furthermore, they were briefed about the career prospects offered  to a  «TEENS» graduate.
