EDUCATIONAL VISITS

On October 5th, an experiential workshop was held at “Maria’s House” entitled “Anger and its impact on adolescent psychology”, by Mrs Angeliki Mastromichalki, Dr. of Philosophy and Pedagogy. The aim of the workshop was the recognition and externalization of teenage emotions through discussions and play and the enhancement of behavioural techniques.

On November 15th, the boarders of “Maria’s House” visited the newly established Tsakos Group Maritime Academy where they met Director – Capt. Kostas Menis and the Teachers. This was followed by a tour of the Academy’s facilities, where our boarders were able to admire the state-of-the-art electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment.

On November 19th, our boarders had the pleasure of welcoming Ms. Danae Bezantakou, CEO of Navigator Shipping Consultants to our premises. On the occasion of the publication of her book entitled, “Towards the Sea Side”, she spoke with our students on various issues related to shipping and entrepreneurship.

As part of the “The Ship Goes to School” program, our students took part in a Webex communication with Captain Thomas Myofas and the crew of m.t. “CHIOS DF”.   This included a virtual tour of the vessel and also an interesting discussion about the journey and life at sea.

On December 15th, artist Mr. Babis Koiliaris and the theatrical group “Kofinaioi Theatre Workers”, were invited to “Maria’s House” to share their film entitled “The Saltiness of the Sea”, an allegorical fairy tale with an anti-war message, with our students.

On December 16th, HELMEPA conducted a seminar for the boarders of “Maria’s House” to educate them on a specially designed toolkit, which includes information, digital tools, ideas and materials.  The, s called “CCC Toolkit”, is designed to empower them – as future Ambassadors on climate change – and assist them to convey the message on tackling climate change to the local Chian community.
