CULTURAL – EDUCATIONAL ACTIONS

During the month of April, we enriched our weekly programme with two new annual courses: the workshop, “Greek through songs”, by Prof. Alice Méndez, and the course, “Ancient Greek Theatre”, by Prof. Carlos Marenales.

The co-operation with the Hellenic Open University continues successfully in 2025, promoting language exchange between students of both educational institutions via online meetings. On May 5th we held a teleconference with new students interested in participating in this programme.

Teacher Mr. Antonis Georgiadis, whilst on a tour in South America, presented his study “Nostos, a proposal for reading the Homeric epics” at the Foundation. The presentation, took place on April 23rd for the benefit of our advanced students and was very well received by all. Mr.  Georgidis attended many of our classes, met and discussed with teachers and students on matters of common interest.

The Foundation’s Director, Ms. Soraya Ochoviet and the Spanish language professor, Ms. Gladys Valetta, gave a presentation on May 23rd entitled: “The ‘H’ doesn’t sound, but it’s worth talking about it”. The history of the letter ‘H’ has been lost over the centuries; however, it avails itself to interesting discussions.

In May, we have launched the “Reading Challenge” for the 3rd year, with participants reading 6 books from specific genres over a period of 6 months, guided by our librarian, Ms. Florencia Gutiérrez.

It gave us a pleasure to once again co-organize the festival “Literature in Athens” (LEA), which took place in Athens from 12th to 22nd June. This great celebration of Greek-Iberoamerican literature and arts attracts thousands of visitors every year. The closing ceremony took place, once again, at “Megaron Makedonia” during which a) Mr. Dimitris Filippis, professor at the Hellenic Open University, presented the in-house e-magazine of the University “Tribuna abierta de estudios Hispano-Helenos” b)  Hellenist Mr. Pedro Olalla talked about his work in translating  Adm. Konstantinos Katagas poems  “From the Sun to Thucydides” whilst the writer explored his inspirations and finally c) the “Book of Twilight” by Pablo Neruda was also presented. On June 25th, our Foundation and the Hellenic Community launched two competitions: the art competition for adults, “Our Democracy Inspires”, commemorating the end of the country’s dictatorship and the audiovisual competition for children and teens “Theodorakis-Hatzidakis” in context of the 100th anniversary of the birth of these great Greek composers.
