A new cooperation agreement was signed on July 29th between the Maria Tsakos Foundation and the Foreign Language Centers Programme (CLE – Centros de Lenguas Extranjeras) of Uruguay’s Secondary Education System. This agreement now allows the Foreign Language Center to offer Greek language courses, that will be taught by professor from the Foundation. Up to now, the CLE programme provided free courses in German, French, Italian, Portuguese and sign language in secondary education, on an optional and extracurricular basis. Thus, on September 16th, our professor Florencia Gutiérrez, who is also a professor of Spanish literature in secondary schools, began teaching at the CLE bringing the Greek language closer to young students.
On July 29th, we co-organised with the Greek Embassy in Uruguay and the Foreign Language Centre of the Faculty of Humanities (University of the Republic of Uruguay – UdelaR), the tribute “One Hundred Years of Mikis Theodorakis“, which took place in the Faculty’s Event Hall. The event was opened by Consul Michail Manousakis, and the audience was welcomed by H.E. the Greek Ambassador Stavros Spyridakis, the Dean of the Faculty Pablo Martinis and the Director of the Foreign Language Centre, Mrs. Laura Masello. The keynote speaker was our Honorary President Ms. Margarita Larriera, who presented the life and work of Mikis Theodorakis, followed by a commemorative video about the great Greek musician, specifically produced for this occasion. The highlight of the event was the music of Mr. Christodoulos Kalafatis and Ms. Maria Carmen Kalafatis, who the audience enthusiastically applauded.
