The radio programme of the Foundation, “Journey to Ithaca”, celebrated its 20th anniversary. On August 1st, the programme’s producer and presenter, Ms Margarita Larriera, invited our students and friends to a musical evening at the Foundation, honouring 20 years of Greek music broadcasted by Oriental 770 AM. In our crowded main hall, the newly established band Rebétika Montevideo, presented its songs for the first time this year. During the second part of the event, we all enthusiastically sang along to the popular Greek repertoire of the Kalafatis couple.
On September 8th, the Rebétika Montevideo band performed live at Bar Kfé. The audience enjoyed the rebetiko songs of our music group, which currently consists of four bouzoukis, two baglamas, two guitars, a double bass, four percussion instruments, and vocals. The band members were particularly pleased when their music inspired of the audience to dance.
